My journey into yoga was a slow evolution. I started as an aerobics instructor and personal trainer, having worked in the fitness realm since 1989. Through traveling to India and Nepal as a former flight attendant, I was fascinated by eastern philosophy. This inspiration, along with stressful life circumstances eventually prompted me to pursue the study of yoga in 1998. I studied yoga philosophy and meditation under private instruction. I was still teaching aerobics at the time, and after a knee injury, as fate would have it, I shifted away from my fitness career and delved completely into yoga. I then studied classical hatha yoga, attended yoga retreats when my whole life changed. I found inner peace, flexibility, strength and balance . I was so passionate about sharing yoga with others, that I finally became certified to teach yoga in January 2005. I’ve been teaching full-time yoga classes and leading yoga retreats ever since. I am registered at the 200 hour level through Yoga Alliance, and am a current Member and previous Board Member of the Indiana Yoga Association.
I’m not the yogini who can put her leg behind her head YET, so I have deep compassion and patience for the total beginner, as well as individuals who are working through several health and physical challenges. I also draw upon my many years of fitness, personal training, and yoga experience to challenge the seasoned yogi both physically and mentally, helping to deepen and enhance yoga practice. Each class will focus on the breath, safe alignment, awareness and mindfulness through asanas (yoga postures) deep relaxation and meditation. I encourage you to bravely accept where you are, yet work through challenge, and enjoy your journey .
Although I don’t follow one “Guru”, I find my students to be my real teachers, and although my personal yoga practice is rewarding, I find everyday life to be my real yoga practice, filled with lessons, messages, blessings and growth.
I founded Altered Body Mind Yoga in January 2005, where I led yoga classes in Greenwood, Indiana as well as several Corporate and Private Yoga Classes. Serving many diverse populations from executives to teachers, college athletes to children, to those with health challenges and previous injuries. I led seasonal yoga retreats to Brown County and Oldenburg, Indiana, taught yoga to children in Malawi, Africa as part of a volunteer humanitarian trip, as well as coordinated and led my own Yoga Humanitarian Service Trip to Costa Rica.
In June 2008 I expanded and opened Altered Body Mind Yoga Studio and Wellness Center in Greenwood, Indiana, which offered Yoga, Vegetarian Raw Foods Classes and Catering, Wheatgrass and Sprouts, Massage Therapy, and Reiki as well as events led by world- renowned authors/experts, Doug Swenson and Paul Nison.
I sold my yoga business and relocated to Tucson, Arizona in August 2010, where I now offer my services. I am a Registered Experienced Yoga Teacher at the 200 hour level with Yoga Alliance, a previous Board Member of the Indiana Yoga Association, Certified Usui Reiki Master, Certified Deeksha Oneness Blessing Facilitator, and Certified Vegetarian Raw Foods Facilitator.
